The elephants living in sanctuaries in Laos are in trouble. The pandemic has stopped the flow of international tourists who paid for the animals food and upkeep, and now these sanctuaries are broke.
$2 from every elephant tassel we sell will go to support the Elephant Conservation Center sanctuary in Sayaboury, Laos.
These cute elephant tassels are handmade by Taileu women in northern Laos, making this a DOUBLE-DO-GOOD PURCHASE. Help the makers AND help the elephants! No two alike. Made with handwoven fabrics and hand embroidery.
Elephants are the symbol of good luck and wealth in Lao culture. Though Laos used to be the Land of a Million Elephants, the numbers alive today are but a fraction of that (less than 1000). Sad but true that most have been poached or sold off to zoos in China and elsewhere. Most of the ones that remain are in sanctuaries, while some are still engaged in timber harvesting.
Mixed colors. We can't take an order for a specific color, but we will choose the best in stock for each shipment.
